Last weekend was quite a stunner, what with Japanese punk, Korean horror-movie music, and a new addition to the C's revival (better than "200 people turning up to DKD wearing mp3 players and dancing in their own heads all night"); but we live in the city where 酒不醉人人自醉 ("people, rather than alcohol, enebriate") and with a population of 13 million, the party doesn't stop so easily. Read on for this week's contributions to our city's tradition of bacchanalia.

Thursday: It's been too long since electroclash figures Ladytron and Miss Kittin graced Fuxing Park and DKD, respectively, so B6 and his gang of local DJs will be invading the tiny little DJ booth (not hard) at C's to bring you "electroclash, electro, retrofuturism, synthpop, disco trash, and god knows what else music". Starting at 9 pm and lasting ... All. Night. Long. The fourth in their series of Antidote nights, this rolling stone has been gathering momentum for three months now and is making C's the epicenter of a new Shanghai indie DJ scene.

Friday: The Live Bar is heating up lately, due both to its gritty setting and to the synergy (ack!) created by the partnership between local promoters Shanghai Underground Music Network (shrock.cn) and the new English-language Shanghai Streets site. This Friday at 8 pm, Live Bar hosts the School of Rock, a showcase of student bands from schools in the hosting Yangpu district. If rock is not your thing, or if you're looking for something a little more convenient and slick, the Duolun Museum of Modern Art is hosting the Pink Twins, a Finnish duo that deliver "visual and sonic noise combined in a most physical experience." While you're there, the renovated Duolun Road is worth a look for enthusiasts of Old Shanghai.

Saturday: The weekend sees Live Bar light up again as long-time Shanghai stalwarts Old Street bring together their friends for a night of rock: Old Street, Another Kind of Light, "Three Yellow" Chicken are all solid acts that should put on a tight show. If you're an early riser like Shanghaiist wishes we were, you might be able to make it out to Hangzhou by 2 pm for the start of the 2pi Music Festival. The setting for this festival is Hangzhou's No. 31 Bar, set in a cluster of trees on the far side of West Lake, an absolutely beautiful location. The two-day schedule includes last weekend's Nakatani-Chen Duo back from a performance in Beijing, and Shanghai's noisy Torturing Nurse, among a host of Hangzhou bands.

Sunday: Shangahiist promises we'll lay off the Live Bar next weekend, but this week it keeps on giving. On Sunday, Vialka ("French/Canadian Turbo Folk Prog") hits the stage as part of their world tour. After China, they go to ... Israel, where they'll feel right at home because hey, terrorism is the same the world over.

Tuesday: After a Monday breather, Abigail Washburn brings her talent to Shanghai for a show at the Cotton Club. OK, not exactly underground. And a friend of Shanghaiist's called her "gimmicky." But this music enthusiast and Shanghai resident says, when you put gimmick (banjo) and gimmick (bilingual) together, you just might get something interesting.
