No honorary citizenship for Mike Tyson

"We didn't think it was appropriate to make Tyson an honorary citizen, so we dropped the plan," said Wang Qiquan, vice-head of Luo Dian.Officials in the district hope Tyson's visit today will help attract more visitors to the area, but while happy to make use of the star's profile, they do not want to clasp him too closely to their bosom.
"Many people said (the honorary citizenship) would be inappropriate. For one thing, it will be the first time Tyson has even visited our town, and he has never made any other contribution. He has also been involved in too many legal and sporting scandals," Wang explained.
Speaking of bosoms, it appears there were plenty on display last night at the grand opening of Snatch Night Club, where Tyson was the guest of honor. Based on photos we've seen, the club appears intent on living up to its name. The above cowgirl shot, comes form a series of photos (all of the same girl) that appears in the sports section of a Shanghai online portal. The same site offers more party photos here. The Tyson photo used above came from Sohu.
We didn't go to Snatch last night, but reports from people who did spoke of a RMB 150 cover charge and a quick exit by Mr. Tyson.
If you have photos from last night and want to share, upload them to your Flickr account and tag them "shanghaiist." Or, simply email them to photos at shanghaiist.com and they will automatically appear on our photos page.
Finally, thesweetscience.com summarizes Tyson's plans for Saturday:
... Tyson, born Christian but a convert to Islam, intends to meet with the abbot of Jing’an Temple, a famous Buddhist monastery, to discuss the problems facing planet earth.

Mike Tyson? Shanghai?! What?!?

Silly me, I thought Mike Tyson was one of "the problems facing planet Earth."
I saw Mike Tyson with my own two eyes. We had trouble getting in, even though we booked a table, and while we were arguing with the promoters at the door, a swarm of security comes rushing through pushing everyone aside to let Tyson walk by. He had these HUGE bodyguards around him and said "hi" to everyone. Apparently, he also said "Ni hao" but he kind of mumbled it so I didn't hear. His face tattoo isn't as noticeable as in photos. And, the man is a munchkin! I was almost eye level with him in my heels and I'm tiny. He went into the elevator and the promoters kept assuring everyone he would be back, he's just "taking a rest."
BTW, the woman in the photo with the cowboy hat was this AMAZING pole dancer. She was no joke. She would climb the pole, hang upside down, hang horizontal from the pole (!!), do flips, all this with some impressive bumping and grinding. I would say she was definitely the highlight of the evening. Never seen anything like it.

They have some pictures up there of the whole Snatch ceremony and stuff.
I don't get what the big deal is. Isn't this guy so over? I mean, he bit off a guy's ear for goodness sakes. Is this the type of person to idolize?
Tyson was inside the club for all of 90 seconds, heck it may even have been 19 seconds as it went that quick.
Be interesting to see if SNATCH can pull it off to become 1 of Shanghai's best, management has some good plans but location is kinda wrong imo.
I don't think anyone actually idolizes him anymore. It's just fun to see the crazy, ear-biting rapist in person.
the reason why alot of people are still interested in seeing Mike Tyson is because he is arguable the best ever heavy weight boxer with a ferucious power and skill KO the best around him. Its just a shame he wasnt the brightest guy and most definately got taken adavntage of.
