World Cup: When a big screen just isn't big enough

worldcupbigscreenjapan.jpgThe Shanghai Film Art Center will be showing some World Cup matches on a 40-square-meter screen, the Shanghai Daily reports. Matches shown will be:

  • England vs. Paraguay, June 10, 9 pm
  • All quarterfinal matches, June 30, July 1 and July 2, 11 pm and 3 am
  • Both semifinal matches, July 5 and July 6, 3 am
  • The championship match, July 10, 2 am

They will be using a digital projector to show CCTV-5's feed. The theater holds 288 people and 125 tickets (50 yuan each) have already been sold for the England/Paraguay match.

Where will you be watching the World Cup? If you are interested in joining (or avoiding) England fans, here's the scoop from one fan we know:

Not sure where the English will go for the footie this year -- last time round we took over Malones -- however, they got a bit annoyed as it is run by Canadians and they weren't best pleased at beer being thrown over their big screen, rampant swearing, two Argentina supporting Chinese getting doused with beer and then very upset and a chair being thrown over the balcony.

It may be Big Bamboo this year -- Bryce has promised to nail down the chairs and ban Germans to prevent trouble -- you can take the boys out of England but sadly not England out of the boys.

Shanghai Film Art Center, 160 Xinhua Lu, next to Crowne Plaza Hotel, Tel: 6280-4088.
