Thursday: From 'Truth' to trees

SHist---truth.gifHear ye! Hear ye! Tomorrow night, Brearley Architects and Urbanists will be hosting a special event with Roots & Shoots, the youth arm of the Jane Goodall Institute.

There will be a screening of Al Gore's excellent documentary An Inconvenient Truth, followed by a quick how-to on how to calculate your ecological footprint. The night will close with an overview of a local tree-planting project — did you know that for the cost of two cups o' java, you could plant two trees in China? So what's stopping you, you styrofoam-using, taxi-taking denizen of a recycling-reluctant country? (No, no guilt trip intended at all...)

BAU has made some fine strides in environmentally sustainable urban planning and development in Australia and now in China — their concept of the networks city is, slowly but surely, gaining momentum (there's not much info online, so go to the event and bug them for details!). And the enviro-friendly folk at Roots & Shoots are doing some great grassroots work at the community level the world over.

Feed your brain, support their cause, plant some trees. It'll be more satisfying than yet another Thursday night at the bar, we swear. (And for those looking to start their weekends early, the event ends by 9:30pm so you can still have the best of both worlds ...)

Thursday, May 17. 7 to 9:30pm. BAU. No 17, Lane 1252 Fuxing Zhong Lu. For more info, or to RSVP, contact Armelle at 5466 6969 or at armelle@bau.com.au.
